This gal’s got new gear!
My birthday was this week, so I took the plunge and bought a shiny new Neumann TLM-102 microphone!
And it’s SO CUTE!
While everyone screams praises for the TLM-103, I was personally told by Emmy-winning Audio Engineer Roy Yokelson (affectionately deemed “Uncle Roy” by the voice-over community), that the 102 would be a better fit for my voice. And hey, it’s also about $500 cheaper, so there’s that. Who am I to argue?
My very first mic, the Rode NT2-A has served me well up to this point. I was fortunate to be able to start and build a fine career with such a decent mic.
For fun, I decided to record both mics at the same time to compare. This is raw, unedited, unmastered audio. I didn’t even normalize it. I also didn’t adjust my gain when I started yelling, so GIRD YOUR LOINS, er… ears? It’s fine, I give you a warning before I start yelling. So get out your trusty monitoring headphones and/or speakers and let me know what you think:
Mic Shoot Out! Neumann TLM-102 versus RODE NT2-A
Other tidbits of info: This was recorded in my StudioBricks Booth with a Scarlett Focusrite 2i4 and no pop filter.
Spoiler Alert: I got another new piece of gear that I haven’t unboxed yet. Stay tuned!
Thanks.
